    The Zero Waste team is hosting a California Climate Action Corps fellow September 2023-August 2024. The deadline to apply is June 30th, but the sooner the better. The specific posting outlines more about the role on the zero waste team, and there are many other positions available both on the Energy/Environmental Ed teams as well as with other public agencies, tribes, nonprofits and schools throughout the state to engage communities in climate action and education.

    As AmeriCorps members, selected Fellows will serve 1700+ hours and learn real-world climate action skills through community projects, while being part of this unique program and statewide force of emerging leaders. 

    Fellows will earn a stipend of up to $33,000 (spread over 11 months) and combined education awards of $10,000 upon completion to pay educational expenses at eligible schools and training programs or repay qualified student loans.

    The County of Ventura is seeking a Food Recovery Administrator who will oversee the development of a regional edible food recovery (EFR) network in Ventura County comprised of eight (8) cities + the unincorporated County to meet EFR compliance mandates of California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383).

    Zero Waste Marin has just put out an RFP to help us complete our Edible Food Recovery Capacity work, as required by CalRecycle. 

    Main goals include determining the amount of surplus edible food generation, the capacity of current food recovery organizations, and needs for any additional edible food recovery capacity, among others. For full details, please read the RFP in its entirety.

    Zero Waste Marin intends to award a one-year contract under this RFP, with a maximum contract amount of $100,000.

    The County of San Mateo Office of Sustainability is seeking a consultant to design a countywide compost quality improvement campaign to support our implementation of California Senate Bill 1383.     The San Francisco Environment Department is delighted to release this Request for Proposals for community-based organizations engaged in activities that will help the city achieve its climate action goals as outlined in San Francisco’s 2021 Climate Action Plan. We will be awarding funding in several categories: 

     

    Category 1: Environmental Justice/Building Decarbonization: a total of up to $450,000 for increasing the capacity of community-based organizations to participate in building electrification. 

    Category 2: Zero Waste/SB-1383 Procuring Compost for Agriculture: a total of up to $500,000 to procure compost and support small local farmers by providing them with compost and/or mulch to support healthy farming practices and maximize their soil’s ability to sequester carbon. 

    Category 3: Zero Waste/SB-1383 Urban Compost Activation: a total of up to $130,000 to promote compost use in San Francisco through community-based outreach, education, and compost giveaway events. 

    Category 4: Zero Waste/General: a total of up to $720,000 for projects that move San Francisco toward its ambitious zero waste goals.  

    Category 5: Pollution Prevention: A total of approximately $75,000 for projects that reduce San Franciscans’ exposures to toxic chemicals.   

    Category 6: Community Greening: a total of $100,000 for community greening.   

    Category 7: Youth Education: a total of $25,000 for projects that provide youth development activities and education on zero waste and its connection to climate change.
