    Cascadia Consulting Group is seeking an Associate with Communications & Engagement experience who is passionate about working with clients and community to advance sustainability. 

    The selected candidate will work primarily on projects within Cascadia’s Communications and Engagement (C&E) line of business and utilities to nonprofits and private-sector companies. The position must be available for local outreach and client meetings in the greater Puget Sound area but may otherwise work remotely. Cascadia does have a physical Seattle office space and a culture that encourages in-person engagement with colleagues while supporting remote flexibility.  Occasional travel, including fieldwork, meetings, overnight stays, or other activities outside standard work hours may be required.

    The City of Santa Monica is seeking a Zero Waste Specialist.

    Job Summary

    Performs administrative and operational duties of average to difficult complexity in support of all facets of the City’s zero waste program and projects including outreach field work, technical assistance, inspections, on-site education, data gathering and analysis, report writing, and working at community recycling events.

    Note: The actual title of this classification is Zero Waste Assistant. The working title of Zero Waste Specialist is pending City Council and Personnel Board approval tentatively scheduled to be effective July 1, 2024.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

    The Clerk of the Board is expected to have specific knowledge of the functions, policies and procedures of all board/committee related activities. Incumbents in this position apply substantial initiative and independent judgment and action in the support of the boards and committees they support. In addition, the incumbent will serve as a technical subject matter expert for other staff. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Successful performance requires a high degree of initiative, independent judgement, tact, and discretion in dealing with elected officials, staff at all levels, representatives from outside organizations, and the public.

    The City of Vallejo Public Works Department is seeking one qualified candidate to fill the Recycling Coordinator position. The Recycling Coordinator will be responsible for implementation and oversight of a variety of recycling and solid waste programs that are aimed at reducing waste, increasing recycling, and ensuring compliance with local and state requirements such as State Assembly Bill (SB) 1383, Assembly Bill (AB) 939, and AB1826. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in in working with the City’s Franchise Waste Hauler, businesses, schools, multi-family complexes and residents to provide training and assist with the implementation of programs related to the City’s solid waste, recycling, composting and construction and demolition recycling. The Recycling Coordinator is an integral part of the City’s Environmental Services Division.

    The Ideal Candidate

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to work well with Stanford faculty, customers, and external organizations.

    • A passion for waste reduction and understanding the concepts of the waste hierarchy and extended producer responsibility.

    • A strong foundational knowledge of zero waste concepts, waste management, recycling markets, and public outreach.

    • An understanding of how best to influence behavior change through community-based social marketing.

    • Understanding of regulatory requirements from the municipal level through international level.

    • A high level of comfort working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

    • Knowledge of website maintenance and experience in social media campaign creation and utilization.

    • Proficiency in Spanish is desired but not required.

    The position involves, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Identify, design, and implement innovative, cost-effective means to reduce waste generation and increase diversion, including, but not limited to public education, technical assistance, research on diversion markets, and academic research projects.

    • Provide diversion strategies based on waste assessment data and outline areas of opportunity.

    • Follow up with customers as needed to ensure new programs are successful.

    • Create and manage a Waste Minimization Plan, compile outreach reports, and deliver an annual presentation to the University’s leadership team.

    • In conjunction with key Stanford staff members, develop and deliver effective outreach and education programs that fulfill contract requirements and support the University’s zero waste goals.

    • Manage social media pages and campaigns, review website and recommend updates to content, and prepare newsletter content for service areas.
    • Review and analyze solid waste regulations as required by regulatory agencies.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, which would typically be acquired through:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental sciences or equivalent.

    • Two years of related experience.

    • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

      Working Conditions

    • May require travel for jurisdictional meetings, exploring systems tools, conferences, etc.

    Benefits and Compensation

    • The anticipated pay scale for this position is $85,000-$105,000.

    • The actual compensation offered will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to the requirements of the position.

    The City of San Diego is actively seeking an Assistant Deputy Director for its Environmental Services Department.

    This position will oversee the operations of the Miramar Greenery and Organics Processing Facility; oversee operational enhancements surrounding the processing of organic waste associated with Senate Bill 1383 to include the final design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing operations of the Organics Processing Facility; oversee the decommissioning and transition of the existing greenery location to the new enhanced location; implement procedures and processes for organic waste recycling; and develop policies and procedures related to equipment and material processing and best management practices for operations and regulatory implications.
